Static Intercept Technology

What is It?

The Intercept TechnologyÔ changes plastics into a new material that is capable of providing long term, non-contaminating and non-coating Anti-Corrosion and Anti-Tarnish protection.  Intercept TechnologyÔ was developed and patented worldwide by Bell Labs to provide corrosion protection for sensitive electronics and telecommunication equipment.   NASA has used the same material for a box to protect sensitive electronic equipment from corrosion and other types of dangers during Shuttle missions.  Intercept is AMINE free, so it is safe for all optical systems and polycarbonate when used as directed.

What does It do?

The Intercept plastic acts as a barrier to the atmospheric gases that cause corrosion and tarnish.  Intercept also acts as a preferential corrosion site, so the gases trapped inside of a closed container containing Intercept will preferentially go to the Intercept material, and be reacted and permanently neutralized.

How does It do it?

By reaction of a solid state material into the polymer backbone through the Intercept process a standard plastic is transformed into acting like a sold sheet of highly reactive metal.   This new material can be processed and used like a normal plastic, but it will act as a solid piece of metal as well.  This dual nature makes Intercept unique.  Intercept also is designed to protect electronic equipment from the dangers of static electricity, the silent killer of electronics and computers.

What Advantages Does It Have?

Ø                 Unique, no other non-chemical emitting material on the market effectively combines ESD protection with corrosion protection.  Unique in its ability to protect without any contamination when used as directed.

Ø                  Intercept is AMINE free, so its non-chemical emitting property is safe for optical systems and all plastics.

Ø                  Technology developed and protected by Lucent Technologies Bell Labs – a leader in new product and technological innovations.

Ø                  Long term corrosion protection to objects stored within a closed container (bag).

Ø                  CDM (Charge Device Model) safe and humidity independent ESD protection.

Ø                  Flexibility – Intercept can be reacted into polyolefins (PE, LDPE, HDPE, PP), styrene, and engineering grade resins.  Intercept can also be processed through most plastic processing methods, such as blown and case film, injection molding, thermoforming, sheet extrusion, laminations, and so on.

Ø                  Same technology as used to protect objects at such museums as the Guggenheim Museum, to protect computer boards for NASA, guidance system parts for Hughes and Raytheon, and to protect satellites.

Market Positioning

Ø                  US Army has shown that 4 mil Intercept bags are more effective than MILPRF B-131 foil.

Ø                  Prestige, high-end products, yet cost effective for manufacturing.

Ø                  EMI is an authorized licensee of Lucent Technologies Bell Labs for Intercept products.
