Armorshield PlusTM Technical Specifications

Armorshield PlusTM is a heat-shrinkable material, offering a strong protective cover with water wicking properties.  This also is the material with which FPM Inc. makes kits.  This shrinkfilm is composed of three layers.

The outer layer is a special 7-mil, white, shrink polyolefin film, which remains flexible after shrinking and contains an advanced ultra-violet inhibitor that will last up to two years outdoor.  This shrinkfilm also is designed to work with the Shrinkfilm Coating System, which extends the lifespan of the cover to up to 5 years outdoors.

The second layer is a 1.5-mil thermoplastic bonding plastic containing no solvents, which is applied to the film in a hot, continuous layer. This layer does not come in contact with the surface of the item being protected and will not leave a residue on the surface. Its primary function is to bind the shrinkfilm and polyester fabric together.

The inner layer is a 3.0-ounce spun non-woven polyester material, which is completely inert.  It will not react with the finish or react with any residual solvents in the finish.  It is hydrophilic which is anti-condensing and anti-fogging but which wicks away moisture.  The anti-condensing properties of this layer help protect the finish from moisture damage.  The inner layer also insulates the item being shrinkwrapped from the heat during the shrinking process, protecting the finish from over heating and actually causes the film to shrink faster.   This insulation protection was validated by an independent test that showed a temporary increase to the equipment skin temperature 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit over ambient temperature.  The inner non-woven layer is engineered for total scratch resistance.  The fibers of the non-woven fabric are aligned for maximum cushion, softness and abrasion resistance.

Prior to shrinking, the material is sufficiently strong to allow sewing, further allowing for the creation of custom fit kits, bags, covers, etc.  When shrunk, all three layers shrink simultaneously, forming a softer yet stronger finished product and the film is safe, and it contains no solvents or other harmful vapors.  Independent testing shows only up to a 40oF ambient temperature increase during a typical heat shrinking process.  The material will maintain its properties under extreme temperatures and the unique laminating process allows the film to remain soft without altering the original characteristics of the inner and outer layers.

Armorshield Plus is 100% US made. The materials are recyclable in a mixed material recycle process, with the fibers adding strength to many recycling products.
