ATSI
Technology - Technical Bulletin 26
A
Brief Overview
ã
EMI 1995
Developed by Lucent Bell Labs to fight the dual problem
of Corrosion and Static Electricity
Designed
to Save you Money from expensive losses due to ESD or Corrosion
The
ATSI Technology combines a Static Intercept back panel with the
new clear AT anti-stat Technology developed by Lucent Technologies
Bell Labs as the front panel. The combination of technologies provides
a clear front to the revolutionary ESD and Corrosion protection
provided by Static Intercept. The ATSI bag will protect sensitive
electronics from corrosion and ESD damage, resulting in reducing
latent defects and solderability
problems.
Static Intercept protects against ESD Damage:
Ø Static
Intercept is permanently antistatic while the AT has extra long
ESD life
Ø Intercept
is Humidity independent (resistivity unchanged at 0 to 100% Relative
Humidity) while the AT side is relatively unaffected by even low
humidity levels
Ø ATSI
will not contaminate surfaces - the AT was specially formulated
to reduce the migration of the anti-stat keeping AT contamination
free
Ø Intercept
passes NASA non-volatile residue specification (no contaminates)
Ø Tribo-electric
charging <20 volts and 1 nc
Ø Clean
room compatible, no sloughing (used in AT&T and Delco clean
rooms)
Ø Intercept
manufactured in the surface resistivity range of 106 to 109 ohms/sq
and the AT in the range of 109 to 1011 ohms/sq
Ø Non
Ferrous metals corrode by reacting with corrosive gases such as
COS, SO2, HCl and H2S. These corrosive gases are formed by such
forces as decaying vegetation, burning fossil fuels, from ocean
surfaces, as well as many other natural sources. These gases are
in every environment, even inside clean AT&T facilities.
Ø Static
Intercept protects against Corrosion Damage:
Ø Reacts
with and permanently neutralizes corrosive gases
Ø It
is the only product available that is effective against Galvanic
coupling (the corrosion that occurs when dissimilar metals are joined
together)
Ø Leaves
no detectable deposit on any product it protects (unlike VCIs)
Ø Cleanses
trapped air of corrosive gases
Ø Provides
cost savings by eliminating secondary packaging or secondary cleaning
operations often required with VCI protection or no protection
Ø Eliminates
the need for storage in inert atmospheres
Ø Environmentally
friendly with substantially reduced landfill time (breaking down
into Polymer dust) and fully recyclable (meeting tough German recycling
laws)
Ø Effective
corrosion protection for the following materials:
·
Silver
·
Copper
·
Bronze
·
Brass
·
Tin
·
Ferrous Metals (Iron and Steel)
